The 2020 is by no means the most challenging year for the hospitality business for decades. Except for the lucky niche companies offering for example doomsday shelters for super-rich or properties with high demand from local tourists there are not many properties, tour agencies, airlines or any other company related to hospitality in the whole world that has not suffered from the consequences of the pandemic. To some extent government support programs, additional funding, or the timely lifting of quarantine rules could to some extent ease the pain, but can not solve the major problem of less demand in tourism. This will lead to a makeover of hospitality companies at the pace difficult to predict.

It is with great regret that we announce the closure of the projects WonderWeekend and Nastani.bg, with whom our products have been integrated and we have worked hand in hand for several years. The companies had to make a very difficult decision to close their projects due to the coronavirus epidemic. Both systems do not accept new reservations on their website anymore and currently providers are putting their main efforts to develop other projects, which got significantly less damage from the crisis.

Due to this situation, the YieldPlanet Channel Manager integrations with WonderWeekend and Nastani.bg have been discontinued.

HRS orders guaranteed by credit card are saved and displayed with card details in YieldPlanet channel manager. Details visible in the Channel Manager include card type, holder name, number and expiry date. Please note that not all orders come with credit cards as HRS is a great source of business orders paid charged in a different way than with credit card. As PSD2 directive deadline set for December 31st 2020 is approaching fast YieldPlanet expects more focus from OTA side on processing payments and sharing virtual credit cards.

PARS import and export

Have you ever considered making a backup of your prices, allotment and restriction for statistical, reporting or statistical purposes?
If so you could try exporting your data into an excel file by few simple clicks in Price, Allotment and Restrictions section.
From now on you can also import your prices, allotment and restrictions via excel file into the Channel Manager.

How to do it?

Please visit Prices, Allotment and Restrictions page and export your data into an excel file. In case your requested date range is lengthy we will deliver your report via an email few minutes later.
Modify any rates, allotments and restrictions and upload the file back via Import button. The channel manager will save your modified data in the calendar and send it out to all connected channels.
Feel free to modify any rates, allotments or restriction but at the same please keep the file format intact and do not erase any rows or columns.

History logs

The channel manager records all your activity or PMS’s activity and gives you the access to history logs.
As you can expect even dozen or so million operations from every month might be recorded for a medium size or larger property with PMS connected to YieldPlanet.
Givining you access to such a large volume of data is a challenge and that is why we enhanced the mechanism of displaying your historical logs.
From now on searching within a history returns results faster. In case of larger data amount we will deliver you report via an email few minutes after requesting logs.
Anytime you can also retrieve history logs into an excel file for further analysis later.

Reporting API

Hoteliers  can now not only mark credit card as invalid or report no-shows but also cancel and modify reservations and report guest misconduct and damages made by travelers to Booking.com.
New reporting option can be found in each existing and new reservation from Booking.com and include:
– marking credit card as invalid
– cancelling reservation due to invalid credit card and lack of new payment details
– reporting No-Show
– setting new departure date and new total price at a reservation level
– reporting inappropriate guest behavior and potential damages

Hotels are opening, restrictions are slowly being lifted and the number of reservations are increasing. It only means one thing – it’s high time for action! Now we are observing an increase of reservations which we process in our Channel Manager. We have decided to share this data with you because we believe it might help you to make better business decisions. Every Wednesday, during a morning cup of coffee, we will share new data, briefly discuss it and suggest actions to take in this period of time.

After the initial rise in the number of new weekly bookings between mid-May and the beginning of July (weeks 20-28), the demand has reached its current limits. Over the last six weeks, we observe this number to even slowly decrease.
Let’s take a closer look at the graphs and understand the details of the recent booking behaviours.

Over the last 1,5 months, we observe a slow down in the number of new bookings made globally. You can see similar trends in most of the countries. At the same time, there are clear regional differences as a result of the local pandemic situation. For example, Spain is recently facing a growing number of confirmed COVID infections and therefore bringing back the restrictions. This results in the fall of new bookings in this region.
Also in other countries, the end of the usual summer season (months of July and August) seems to also have an influence as the numbers in most of the presented countries are not raising anymore.

Globally most of the reservations are made last minute. That was true already before the pandemic but the average booking window is much shorter now. It is also shrinking week by week as a result of existing insecurity of potential guests and existing travel restrictions. Guests are less likely to book further than 4 weeks before arrival. November and December are still beyond the interest.

Taking a closer look at regions of Poland we can see different patterns over the summer months (July and August). Pomorskie voivodeship is probably the most interesting case. This region has been facing weekly more bookings than at the beginning of the year (and in the last year). The end of the summer season is over now and the new weekly bookings are dropping again.

Bookings in Poland are also made mostly last minute. There are also some bookings for 5-7 weeks ahead. Over recent weeks we have noticed some interest in the last part of the year (November and December).

The total number of room-nights booked for selected stay dates confirm the last minute booking pattern. Saturdays are the most occupied days (spikes in the graph). Surprisingly Mondays are more occupied than Sundays. This means that there are bookings made only for the first day of the week. This can be a good sign for hotels focused on business segment since this can potentially come from non-leisure areas.
There is also a clear interest in the Christmas and New Year’s Eve period.

The mix of booking channels remains stable since the beginning of May (week 19). The vast majority of bookings come from OTAs. Unfortunately, all the campaigns encouraging guests to book directly didn’t bring expected results. The share of direct bookings remains at a similar level as it was before the lock-down.

Tips:
– be patient in any price changes – most of the bookings will come in the last week before arrival
– open and control rates for as long as possible since the demand is unpredictable (don’t miss the chance!)
– implement automation tools (like Price Optimizer) so with the limited capabilities you can make sure your distribution is controlled 24/7

A fully revamped Report Scheduler is now available to PriceOptimizer PRO users. Starting today, you can schedule reports that will be delivered automatically via email on any scheduled day, time, and frequency.

Having a scheduler helps in reducing the time and manual work involved when someone has to send the report every week or every month to the desired recipients. For instance, if a Revenue Manager needs a weekly Room Revenue and Rooms Sold report, you can schedule one to be delivered to them every Monday at 8:00 AM.


Once scheduled, PriceOptimizer will run the reports and send them in an email notification as an Excel attachment. To access, go to Reports -> Report Scheduler.

You may be aware that OTAs are doing RateMixing or ‘blending’, a technique whereby OTA’s can provide customers with the best price by mixing different rate plans to meet the search parameters. For instance, they can combine a 2 nights stay by taking one ordinary rate and one night’s worth of the ‘special’ rate, add them together, and serve the guest a cheaper offer.

 You can do the same with YieldPlanet’s Virtual Rate Plan. Combine all your special offers and PriceOptimizer will compose the best price considering all restrictions of the linked rate plans. Offer optimal multi-day rates to direct clients on the phone, to the web booking engine, or send it to selected channels.
